Established by A.V. Yankowsky, isolated from pound located in Mozhaiskaya village (St.Petersburg province) in 1962.
Amoeba proteus (Pallas 1766) Leidy 1878, strain TD (T1D)
From M. Müller (Medical University, Budapest, Hungary) in 1963.
Established at King's College (London, UK) in 1948.
Notes. Initially amoebae of this strain was identified as Amoeba discoides Shaeffer, 1916, subsequently this species was synonymised with A. proteus (Jeon and Lorch, 1973).
Amoeba proteus (Pallas 1766) Leidy 1878, strain CCAP 1503/8
From F.C. Page (Institute of Terrestrial Ecology, Cambridge University, UK) in 1991.
This strain was deposited in Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa (CCAP).
Amoeba proteus (Pallas 1766) Leidy 1878, strain Neapol
From S.I. Fokin (Department of Invertebrate Zoology, St.Petersburg State University, Russia) in 2005 as natural isolate; cloned.
Isolated from the natural reservoir at Neapol vicinities (Italy).

STRAINS (CLONES) OF AMOEBA PROTEUS AND AMOEBA SP. (PROTEUS-LIKE), ESTABLISHED DIRECTLY FROM NATURAL ISOLATES
Amoeba proteus (Pallas 1766) Leidy 1878, strain Dz
Established by M.V. Tavrovskaya (Institute of Cytology RAS, St. Petersburg, Russia) in 1984.
Isolated from pound located in Lopuhinsky Garden (St. Petersburg, Russia).
Amoeba sp., strain CONT (proteus-like)
Established by A.S. Karpov (Institute of Cytology RAS, St. Petersburg, Russia) in 1989.
Isolated from Kontrol'nyi gulf, Lake Sys'jarvi (Valaam Archipelago, North-Western Russia).
Amoeba sp., strain VAL (proteus-like)
Established by A.S. Karpov (Institute of Cytology RAS, St. Petersburg, Russia) in 1989.
Isolated from Skitskyi gulf, Lake Sys'jarvi, (Valaam Archipelago, North-Western Russia), august 1989, bottom sediments near the coast line.

AMOEBAE STRAINS OF DIFFERENT SPECIES OF AMOEBIDAE
Amoeba amazonas (Flickinger, 1974) Friz, 1992 (strain Amazon)
From D.M. Prescott (University of Colorado, Boulder, USA) in 1969.
Estabished by D.M. Prescott from river Amazon (Brazil).
Notes. A long time the status of amoebae of this strain as a separate species was in doubt, because the name "was given without a description that is taxonomically valid..." (Page, 1988, p. 59); the formal taxonomical status of this species was established later (Friz, 1992).
Amoeba borokensis Kalinina, Afon'kin, Gromov, Khrebtukova et Page, 1986 (strain Bor)
Established by L.V. Kalinina (Institute of Cytology RAS, St. Petersburg, Russia) in 1974.
Isolated from pound in Borok settlement (Yaroslavl province, Russia), august 1974.
Notes. It was initially established as a new strain of A. proteus, later was described as a separate species (Kalinina et al., 1986).
